The National Center for Cystic Fibrosis at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, is the largest center for the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis in Israel. One hundred and fifty children, adolescents and adults are treated at the center. Their ages range from infancy to 55 years.
The center aims to provide comprehensive care for all patients.
The multidisciplinary team includes four physicians (Pulmonologists specialized in the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis), a specialized nurse, dietician, physiotherapist, clinical psychologist, social worker, transplant coordinator and laboratory technicians. Our laboratories have extensive experience in assessing pulmonary function, diagnostic sweat tests and genetic evaluation and counseling. The hospital facilities provide a broad spectrum of additional expertise in microbiology, virology, endocrinology, radiology, gastroenterology, surgery and intensive care. The Institute of Radiology performs noninvasive procedures such as MRI, CT, and Ultrasound examinations as well as Invasive Angiography (BAE and TIPS).
Since 1996 , five successful Lung Transplantations have been performed on CF patients at our center and an additional three patients who have undergone Double Lobe Living Donor Transplantations abroad are provided with follow-up care. Currently, Living Donor Transplantation is available at our center.
The patient population includes patients with CF from all areas of Israel as well as patients referred for treatment and consultation from other countries.
