My Friend Zvika
By Gil Man

"Daddy, Daddy!" cried little Robin as she ran to her father. She was hurt and bleeding. "I cut my finger outside playing in the sandbox."

"Oh poor baby, let's go into the bathroom and clean it up." said Daddy. It was not too bad a cut but would require cleaning and a bandage. Daddy washed the cut and dried it off real good. "Now we have to spray it with this antiseptic to prevent it for hurting worse."

Robin scream "Ouch! That hurts Daddy!"

"That means the medicine is working pumpkin." Daddy consoled Robin.

"But it hurts Daddy" cried Robin.

"Did I ever tell you about my friend "Zvika?" ask Daddy. He is in pain most of the time.

"Who is Zika. I never heard of that name before." mispoke Robin.

"Zvika." explained Daddy. "He is not from around here. He is from Israel. He is in pain most of the time because of a disease called Cystic Fibrosis or CF for short."

"What is CF like Daddy?" the little girl was forgetting about her pain.

"CF is like having a very bad cold all of the time. Normally children about you age have CF and need lots of care and loving." explained Daddy. "Zvika is my age. It is rare for adults to have CF. It left him thin and weak, not like me big and strong. He need special tube in his nose to help him breath. It is hard for him to leave his home. He is in pain a lot. More often in pain than not."

"Where did you meet Zvika?" ask Robin as Daddy place the bandage on her little finger.

Daddy kisses Robins finger and said "We met on the computer. He is a nice man and likes to have fun. He smiles a lot but cannot laugh. It hurts too much."

Robin looked at her finger and old Daddy "It does not hurt any more Daddy!"

"Great!" said Daddy. "Next time you hurt or are sick, think of my friend Zvika. God let's you take away some of the pain he has so he can live a little better."
